SUMMER COMES PEDALLING

With the opening of the lifts and the bike parks at high altitude on 11 June, the 2022 summer season officially opens in Livigno, with excursions and courses for all levels and ages and initiatives to bring the general public closer to the world of two wheels.

The arrival of the warm season in Livigno brings back to light the spectacle of nature that for months was buried under the snow: woods and meadows but also a dense network of trails, roads and paths - as many as 3,200 km GPS mapped, 17 km of cycle-pedestrian path and 3 bike areas - ready to be explored on two wheels. From children's activities to mountain, enduro, cross-country, flow-country, downhill, e-bike and road-bike tours, there is no doubt that the bicycle is the queen of Livigno's summer. There are those who prefer the extra stability of fat wheels and those who tackle the asphalt riding a lightweight carbon frame; there is no discipline on two wheels that cannot be practised, and even those who are approaching it for the first time find valid support in the instructors and qualified guides made available by the Bike Skill Centre where, in addition to hiring equipment, it is possible to receive suggestions on the best routes to enjoy on your own and to sign up for courses and excursions planned for all ages and levels. The rich weekly programme includes several guided rides on the best single trails in Livigno, Engadine and Alta Rezia offered by the BikeLivigno.com. Epic climbs, adrenaline-pumping trails and routes designed to immerse you in the spectacular nature of the valley, these are the appointments that the summer has in store for cycling enthusiasts in Little Tibet.

The opening of the bike parks.
The opening of the Bike Park Mottolino, one of the first bike parks in Europe, is set for 11 June, the date conventionally chosen to determine the start of the 2022 summer season. It offers 14 trails suitable for everyone divided into three levels of difficulty and facilities to satisfy both beginners and experts: a Jump area dedicated to jumps in sequence on beaten earth, a North Shore area in the woods with suspended bridges and wooden walkways, a Slopestyle line entirely dedicated to pro riders, four Drops to test one's skills and a maxi inflatable to learn new techniques and aerial evolutions. The TRY to Ride promotion allows those who want to approach the world of the bike park to rent the complete equipment and access it for three hours.
The Carosello 3000 Mountain Park season officially opens on 25 June, and the Sitas Mountain Area will also be open to the public from 1 July. The 30 km of new Flow Trails combined with the pre-existing mule tracks form a large bike area with more than 50 km of trails: from the Roller Coaster, a pure flow-trail with sensational views of Lake Livigno, to the super-fast H-Dream capable of launching expert bikers up to a maximum speed of 70 km/h, the hiking Coast to Coast to the technical flow of the Blueberry Line. The experience is completed by The Bomb Trail, a 2,7 km and 407 m uphill trail for experienced bikers built mostly by hand, the Lonely Planet, a panoramic single-trail opened in 2020 that crosses the Val Federia and promises a slow and suitable immersion in nature for everyone, and finally the legendary Tutti Frutti Epic Tour, a 45 km mega tour with only a few hundred metres uphill, which includes part of Livigno's flow and historical trails.
Thanks to the Bike Pass Livigno, bikers can access all lift facilities equipped with mtb transport of Mottolino, Carosello 3000 and Sitas with one single pass. A summer version of the ski pass that, choosing according to one's needs between daily and multi-day, allows enthusiasts to go uphill on both slopes, downhill in the bikepark and have unlimited fun choosing between the many specially marked and mapped trails. Until 10 June, it is possible to take advantage of the Bike Pass presale, purchasing day and multi-day passes online with a 10% discount and valid for the duration of the season.

Road biking passion
Its special geographic location also makes Livigno a favourite base for road bikers, who can easily reach the Alpine passes that have made Italian cycling history - Stelvio, Bernina, Gavia, Mortirolo, Foscagno and Maloja - and the Swiss Alpine passes known for their impeccable road surfaces, such as the Bernina.  It is no coincidence, therefore, that Livigno is chosen every year not only by enthusiasts but also by many professional teams to complete their preparation in the mountains ahead of the big summer competitions. Recently, the latest prestigious partnership in this sector was made official with the UAE Team Emirates, one of the best-known cycling teams in the world, who will prepare in Livigno for the Tour de France and the Vuelta. Since 2014 Livigno has been supporting an awareness campaign for motorists, so that the cohabitation with road cyclists is safer for everyone, and also this year a good part of the initiatives put in place by the resort aims precisely to bring the general public closer to road cycling in all safety.
From 1 to 5 June, the Passo della Forcola road will be exceptionally open to pedestrians, amateur and professional cyclists to allow them to try their hand at the ascent in complete tranquillity, concentrating on performance but also enjoying in a privileged way the regenerating contact with the surrounding nature. A 'gift' that precedes the official opening date of the Forcola road to motorised vehicles, set for 6 June.
