CULTURE DOESN'T GO ON HOLIDAY IN LIVIGNO, THANKS TO OUR MUSEUM AND TO INITIATIVES THAT ENHANCE THE TERRITORY

An August full of culture is staged in Little Tibet thanks to MUS! the ethnographic museum of Livigno and Trepalle, which offers guided tours among history, traditions, art and initiatives belonging to the “Volunteers for culture” project. Also scheduled this summer are concerts, meetings with the Author organized by the Civic Library and literary evenings.

This summer Livigno is preparing to raise the curtain on a series of cultural events and initiatives organized by MUS!, the ethnographic museum of Livigno and Trepalle. Located in an old timbered house, the museum has its roots in the late eighteenth century. Guardian of secular traditions, the MUS! accompanies visitors to discover the origins of the territory to understand the dynamics that have led it from a quiet peasant village to a lively tourist center. Through the faithful reconstruction of domestic environments and interesting thematic sections, the museum testifies to the spirit of adaptation which has always distinguished the Livigno and Trepalle inhabitants.
Several activities are planned for summer 2021 to bring visitors closer to the history and culture of the area. The activity "MUS discovering traditions and origins among past, present and future" is available until 5 September from Thursday to Sunday, from 10.00 to 12.30 and from 15.00 to 19.00 (Sunday until 18.00). For those who want to discover the magic of a night visit, the museum opens in the evening, from 6 to 27 August, every Friday from 9 pm to 11 pm, with the possibility of booking a guided tour at 9 pm and 10 pm.

The museum tour can indeed be done with a guide (for about an hour) or independently, thanks to the information panels in each room and the practical audio guide, a free app that visitors can download directly to their smartphone; the material is available in Italian, English and German.
Another activity that leads visitors to learn about the history of Livigno is the "Milk: yesterday and today" initiative, free for children under 10, available until August 26, every Thursday from 10.00 to 12.00. It begins with a special visit to some rooms of the Mus! where ancient objects of the processing of milk and its derivatives are kept. Here you can learn more about the history of milk as a source of livelihood and cornerstone of an agricultural economy that still survives today. Continue by moving to the Dairy where you will be able to see the dairy production and the innovative machinery up close.

For those who prefer a tour of art and architecture, the MUS! organizes visits to some churches in the area, in the company of museum curators and volunteers, to discover historical anecdotes and noteworthy artistic details. It starts on Wednesday 11 August with the seventeenth-century church of San Rocco from 9 pm to 10 pm; it continues on August 18 with the church of Santa Maria Nascente always from 9 pm to 10 pm; while on 25 August at 9 pm it will be the turn of the visit to the Oratory of the Confratelli to discover the anecdotes related to the Confraternities and the statue of the Madonna of August.

Another journey into the traditions of the place is a visit to the Cardery, where you can discover the traditional process of wool processing thanks to the commissioning of ancient carding machines (first hydraulic and now electric). The initiative, available until August 26, every Thursday from 5 to 6 pm, is part of the "Volunteers for Culture" project.

New music events enliven the summer season thanks to the Altre Note Festival: the next two events, open to all, are scheduled for 12 August at 4 pm at Laghetto Luigion with "Ensemble di Percussioni", and on 17 August at 9 pm at the church of Santa Maria con "Canti roccio Trio Quiros".
There will also be appointments organized by the civic library this summer: these are the Meetings with the Author, open to all, where various topical issues will be touched upon. The first two appointments were held on July 21 and August 4, the next is scheduled for August 25 at 21.00 at the Council Chamber, with the participation of the writer and journalist Michele Marziani, author of "La cena dei Coscritti"; the following will be on 11 September at 21.00, again at the Council Chamber, with the participation of Romina Casagranda, author of "I bambini del bosco". The Council Chamber will also be the scene of a special intense and exciting literary event, scheduled for August 6 at 21.00: Prof. Tony Sartori recites and explains Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy.
