MATTIAS’ DREAMS - ENJOYING A GOURMET DINNER IN A CABLE CAR

Associazione Mattias will be awaiting guests for another event in Livigno on 15th September in memory of Mattias Peri. After Sunrise Mattias comes Mattias’ Dreams, a gourmet dinner to be enjoyed under a starlight sky from a panoramic Carosello 3000 cable car.

A dream which has been locked in a drawer for over twenty years is finally about to come true. Three years after founding the association that bears his name, the friends and colleagues of Mattias Peri, the first chef from Livigno and Valtellina to receive a Michelin Star, will make another of the dreams of one of the best loved chefs of recent times come true, namely a gourmet dinner at high altitude. The dinner will be prepared so guests can discover the most authentic flavours of the territory in a truly unique location: the Carosello 3000 cable cars in his Livigno.

Mattias’ Dreams is not simply an event for foodies and lovers of gourmet cuisine but, most importantly, a way of supporting Associazione Mattias in the many events held under the bright star of this chef.

Participants will be able to savour Mattias’ signature dishes during dinner on 15th September whilst enjoying a real journey in one of the Carosello 3000 panoramic cable cars, that will take them to the mountain peak in the unique setting of the stars and lights of Livigno. Once seated in the cable car, which will be elegantly decorated just like a top class restaurant, guests will be served a four-course meal to enjoy whilst the cable car begins its ascent to the peak. The lights of Livigno at nightfall will be behind them, whilst the moon and starry sky above them will make this moment both special and unique.

This magical experience will be followed by an auction open to everyone, even to those not taking part in the dinner. During this second event, the unpublished works of 7 local artists created with the theme “Mattias" will be put up for auction.

The Mattias Peri story is one of love, passion and dedication to haute cuisine and taste. This led him to celebrate the natural ingredients of Valtellina in exquisite gourmet dishes and win a place amongst Michelin star chefs. After graduating from Sondrio hotel management and catering college, Matthias would nevertheless describe himself as self-taught. Working in the restaurant he opened in his home town that bears his name, Mattias Peri loved to express himself through modern cuisine which was as closely linked to the raw materials and ingredients of the territory as it was open to the influence of contemporary international gastronomy.

The Associazione Onlus Mattias was founded three years ago to continue his efforts and spread his values. Matthias’ work was a commitment to rediscovering the flavours of the valley and paying attention to young and promising chefs within the sphere of Italian gastronomy, whom he always tried to motivate to achieve their goals, crowning their passion for cooking. The association was founded above all, however, on the memory of a great Chef and his passion.

Besides continuing the work done by Mattias Peri within the sphere of Italian and international gastronomy, the Association’s primary aim has always been to reward deserving students of the Upper secondary hotel and management schools of Lombardy and Trentino Alto Adige, helping them develop their culinary skill and passion.

For the past three years, the commission of founders of the Mattias Association has donated scholarships to these students to support their specialisation and professional growth. Along with the scholarship, each of the awarded students receives a contribution for their school from the Association. Ten students are selected on the basis of the results they have achieved during the school year and of their classification in a cooking competition. Said competition is judged by a jury of Mattias’s starred chef friends, including Alessandro Gilmozzi, Alessandro Negrini, Giancarlo Morelli, Fabrizio Camer (for the Italian Federation of Chefs) and Claudio Prandi. Last year, with the 2nd Edition of the Mattias Peri Competition, the Association awarded schools and students a total of around 15,000 Euro in various different scholarships.

This year, almost exactly a month before the third competition event, which will be held on 26th October at the prestigious hotel and catering school of San Pellegrino Terme in Bergamo, the Association is ready to make yet another of the dreams that Mattias always cherished in his heart and mind come true. Indeed, the first Mattias' Dreams gourmet event will be held in Livigno on Sunday, 15th September 2019, turning the wish the Chef expressed about 20 years ago of organising a gourmet dinner in cable cars and serving guests a special menu to experience a journey through the flavours of his land, finally come true.

As of today, Monday 5th August, it is possible to book for Mattias’ Dreams by contacting Livigno tourist board. Places available for dinner in the cable car are limited, whilst access to the auction at the departure point of the Carosello facility is free. The proceeds from the evening and auction will go towards the Association's work, aimed at promoting the growth of young chefs.
