This summer, our appointment for foodies from all over Italy will be held in the breathtaking setting of the Italian Alps. The 4th Sentiero Gourmet, an unprecedented gastronomic event open to the public, will take place on Thursday, 11th July in Livigno. It combines complete immersion in the nature of the valley with an appreciation for the culinary traditions of both Livigno and the rest of Italy.

The unique food and wine event of Sentiero Gourmet is a 5 kilometre touring itinerary from Alpe Vago through the woods of Piccolo Tibet. Walking in the moonlight, participants stop at various stations set up under the stars by the Association of Chefs and Confectioners of Livigno. At each station, they will be able to savour both gourmet finger foods and traditional dishes reworked with a twist, accompanied by a selection of excellent wines from Valtellina.

The stations set up along the path will lead participants on a journey through the fragrances, flavours and traditions of Livigno, enhanced by being in such close contact with the surrounding nature. After the starters, participants will savour first courses, intermezzos and main courses featuring local and traditional produce mixed with refined, less usual ingredients. The last stage will guide diners’ palates onto a selection of desserts. Each range of courses can be enjoyed with wine paired specifically with the selection of dishes served.

The event is the showcase par excellence for the Association of the Chefs and Confectioners of Livigno, giving it the opportunity to serve guests the culinary creations of member chefs. It also celebrates the produce of the earth, completely immersed in the landscape from which it originates. The Association was founded in the spring of 2001 with the aim of promoting and safeguarding the culinary traditions of Livigno. It consists of a team of professionals who have been organising events centred around a passion for cooking for years. Hence the inspiration for and idea of producing a photographic book encompassing all the many recipes of traditional Livigno cuisine. Published in 2014, Leina da Saor is quite literally a photo gallery and narrative of Livigno’s excellent food and wine.

The evening kicks off at nightfall when colours begin to change, the sun gives way to the moon and the scent of nature becomes stronger and more enveloping, making this area simply magical. Sentiero Gourmet is an experience for visitors to observe, discover and savour using all five senses.
