LIVIGNO OPENS CROSS-COUNTRY TRAIL WITH FEDERICA PELLEGRINI AND LAHTI CHAMPION FEDERICO PELLEGRINO

Cross-country season in Livigno officially begins with a meeting attended by the press and a number of sporting champions.

Chairman of Livigno Tourist Board Luca Moretti, Lahti World Sprint Champion 2017 Federico Pellegrino, “The Divine” Federica Pellegrini, the Italian National swimming team with Luca Dotto, Simone Sabbioni, Luca Pizzini and Simona Quadarella, Italian skier Jole Galli and some of the Team Livigno athletes, including Saverio Zini, Luca Ferioli, Mattia Longa and Jessica Bormolini “cut the ribbon” of the cross-country trail opened to the public on Sunday, 15th October. This early opening was possible due to the snow farming technique, namely snow that falls during winter is protected under geothermal sheets and layers of sawdust. This technological process makes it possible to preserve snow regardless of the weather conditions.

“I came last year, too,” declared Federico Pellegrino, “and Livigno brought me luck given that I then went on to win two world medals. This morning I did a amazing two hour workout and will do so again this afternoon. This is the only piste in Italy open as of October, which is a huge advantage if you want to train on winter snow without going up to the glacier.”

“We’ve been here for 15 days on a training retreat,” said Federica Pellegrini, “and Livigno is confirming itself more and more as the perfect location for great training sessions, with the added advantage of altitude. We’re going to leave our natural element, the water, today and head out onto the snow. It’s amazing to be able to train on real snow at the beginning of autumn. Brilliant!”

“This year too we wanted to offer tourists, cross-country enthusiasts, and athletes the chance to start training on real snow as of October,” declared Luca Moretti, Chairman of APT Livigno, “and I’m honoured that these sports champions are here today to try it out. Livigno continues to invest in sport, a great advantage for our tourist marketing campaign. The Biathlon polygon will open in November and I can also reveal that we’re working on putting ourselves forward as a resort for an Alpine Skiing World Cup, too.”

“We focus strongly on sport,” declared Deputy Mayor Remo Galli, “and our athletics track and football pitch will be ready for July 2018. Livigno is offering more and more as a municipality for sport, and it’s the ideal setting for training at altitude.”

Upcoming events: the skiing season will kick off with Skipass Free on 1st December and the Sgambeda on 2nd December.
