FAT BIKING IN LIVIGNO

Snowy trails don’t have to keep you off the bike

Trails, forests and mountains covered in deep powder snow might be heaven for skiers, snowboarders, snowshoe hikers and ski touring fans, but for most mountain bikers, winter usually equates to ‘off-season’. In Livigno, however, tailor-made trails, a dedicated shuttle service and even chair lift access mean winter is also fat bike season.

Unlike ‘normal’ mountain bikes, the extra-large tires, extra-wide rims and very low tire pressure of fat bikes offer a certain level of grip and float on snow. Whether it’s to keep the legs in shape over the cold months, working on pre-season fitness, riding through a silent, snow covered fairy tale forest, enjoying nature, spraying snow in turns or to simply goof around in the white stuff – fat bikes are the most fun you can have on a bike in winter.

So why not take a break from the slopes on a down-day and rent a fat bike or e-fat bike from one of Livigno’s many rental stores? Additionally, the Livigno Bike Skill Center in the heart of the town offers information on trails, guided tours for beginners, families and freeriders alike as well as guided night rides. For those that prefer skiing or snowboarding, Livigno has not one, but two ski areas. Carosello 3000 Mountain Playground and Mottolino Fun Mountain feature 30 lifts, over 115km / 70mi of groomed runs and several fun parks. Additionally, Livigno has a dedicated avalanche center and epic freeride terrain with several mountains eclipsing 3000m / 10.000ft surrounding the valley. The Italian town also has you covered when you’re not on the mountain. A beautiful lake, the Aquagranda Active You! - one of Europe’s largest centers for leisure, sport, relaxation and wellness - a stunning variety of hiking trails and of course the traditional Italian hospitality and cuisine. Last but not least, Livigno is a duty-free zone and, with more than 250 tax-free shops, has plenty of windows to browse! For more information on this, visit livigno.eu.

Livigno, situated at 1,816 m/ 5,962ft above sea level in the Lombardy region of Northern Italy, features 3,200km / 2000mi of GPS-mapped trails and two distinct chair-lift accessed riding zones for mountain bikers in summer. Whether it is downhill, freeride or enduro, all-mountain, cross-country or family biking, the unique Italian mountain town covers every taste.
