LIVIGNO APPLIES TO BECOME A EUROPEAN TOWN OF SPORT

The application process began several months ago with the creation of a dossier and will end over the next few days with an inspection carried out by a commission from ACES Italy. A press conference will be held in Livigno on 26th July to present the project.

Livigno’s candidature to become a European Town of Sport is about to begin. The process will last 2 years, during which the installations, activities, events and sporting spirit of the resort will all be assessed. It involves ACES recognition issued by the Italian Delegation of ACES Europe, the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation. The Italian Delegation was established in order to work more closely with the many Italian towns and cities which apply every year for the award for the best European Capital, City, Town and Community for Sport and to deal with the Italian municipalities awarded which also compete for the award of Best European City of Sport. The aim of the Italian Delegation is also to promote the international visibility of all the towns and cities which have been awarded.

In virtue of its vocation for staying active, and the programmes it runs that focus on sporting tourism, Livigno decided to pursue the process for ACES acknowledgement in order to consolidate work which not only involves tourism, but the social fabric of the village itself.

From 24th to 26th July, the ACES Italy Commission will be in Livigno to check the details of the candidature, and will visit the various sports structures present in the area. The installations being considered are: the gyms of Livigno and Trepalle, Larix Park, the Bike Park, the MTB Flow Trails, the trekking pathways, the Bike Skill Center, the cycle path, the Snowfarm, the various activities available on the Lago di Livigno (lake) such as kayaking, sup, the paddle boats, sport fishing, Aquagranda Active You, the football and rugby field, the climbing wall, the Golf Training Area, the sports fields, the bowling green, Plaza Plachéda hotel, conference and exhibition centre, the stables, tennis courts, Trepalle sports fields. The entire winter area of the resort with the ski slopes, the track for driving on ice, the ice-skating rink, the Snowpark etc, will be explained by means of a video of the resort.

A press conference will be held on Wednesday 26th July at 11a.m. in the Sala Consigliare of Livigno town council on occasion of the visit from the ACES Commission, during which the project aims will be explained.

The 5 members of the ACES Commission, the Mayor of Livigno, the Chairman the Livigno tourist board and representatives from the various institutions of the area will speak during the press conference.
