FIVE SPORTS TO DO IN LIVIGNO

Livigno is an outdoor gym at an altitude of 1,816 metres: a true paradise for all sportsmen and women

In Livigno, sportsmen and women will not be bored: it is a true paradise for outdoor sports, located at an altitude of 1,816 metres, for both true sports addicts and occasional sportsmen and women. In addition, training at high altitude is recognised as a real 'must' for those who want to increase their athletic performance: if done consistently, it can enable high intensity performance over a prolonged period of time. Another advantage of sporting activity at high altitude? The landscape. Those who practise sport in Livigno are surrounded by the wonderful natural landscapes of the valley, which are not only a beautiful sight for the eyes, but are also a guarantee of clean air and well-being for both body and soul. There are many sports that can be practised in the well-known Valtellina resort, but these five are perfect for the last days of summer.

Bike
There are several biking trails in Livigno, easily accessible also thanks to modern and efficient lifts - the Mottolino will close on 25 September and the Carosello on 19 September - which can be accessed with the Bike Pass Livigno. For downhill and freeride lovers, the perfect choice is definitely the Mottolino Fun Mountain Bikepark, the first in Lombardy and the only one in Valtellina, but above all one of the best in Italy. Built in 2005 on the occasion of the MTB World Championships and since then constantly implemented and updated, it offers 14 trails suitable for everyone divided into three levels of difficulty. In addition to the trails, there are also facilities here to satisfy beginners and experts. The Carosello 3000 Mountain Park and the Sitas Mountain Area are also designed to be accessible to all types of bikers: since the inauguration of the first trail in 2015, 30km of new Flow Trail (faster and smoother trails) have been created, which, combined with the existing mule trails, form a large bike area suitable for all levels.
For those who prefer road biking, Livigno is an ideal starting and finishing point for the unforgettable experience of cycling over some of the Alpine passes that have made cycling history: the Stelvio, Bernina, Gavia, Mortirolo, Foscagno and Maloja. For road bikers who prefer a quieter excursion, always surrounded by nature, the solution is the cycle path: suitable for everyone - even families with children -, the Piccolo Tibet cycle path runs about 17km along the entire length of the valley.

Trekking
The mountains are for everyone: in Livigno, there is no shortage of excursions suitable for adults and children, professionals and amateurs, but also for those who - once in a while - want to spend a day immersed in the naturalistic landscapes of the Valtellina. The vast trail network - consisting of more than 1,500 km of routes that can be easily reached on foot or by cable car - touches 3,000 metres above sea level. In the valleys that embrace Livigno, there are several trails. Families can choose those through which they can reach mountain pastures, meadows equipped with picnic areas and where they can play in freedom, while those who want to put themselves to the test can choose 10 of the 22 peaks of the Italian Alps that surround Little Tibet reach a height of over 3,000 metres: these are the ones that have always been considered the most representative of Livigno and offer a privileged view. On each of these ten peaks, there is a QR code to be scanned via the MyLivigno app in order to write down your own digital "summit diary", to be re-read at any time. After reaching and documenting on the app the achievement of two of these summits, you will receive a carabiner for each summit reached.

Golf training area
The Golf Training Area, which will be open until 30 September, is a synthetic training course  in the Alps and the highest in Europe, designed both for golf addicts and for those who have never tried their hand at golf before. Covering an area of 10,000 square metres, the driving range consists of a pitch and putt area, a driving range of 250 metres and three greens of varying difficulty, each reached from as many different tees.

Climbing
Climbing combines fun, satisfaction and a lot of concentration: this sport develops both the physical and psychological abilities of those who choose to take it up. But entering the 'vertical world' also involves a continuous challenge with oneself! In Livigno, it is possible to learn - in about 4 hours - the basics of how to start climbing, the basic movements, the necessary equipment, the basic knots to use when climbing, the belay systems... All basic information to test one's own abilities, whether on simple climbs on the valley floor or on the high alpine walls nearby.

Excursion on horseback
For those who wish to immerse themselves in nature but in contact with animals, the perfect solution is an excursion on horseback. Every day, from 12 noon to 4 p.m., the La Tresenda Mountain Farm offers excursions on horseback for everyone, even beginners from 14 years of age, strolling through Livigno's wonderful woods, accompanied by an equestrian instructor.
