The show of the European Cup in Livigno was a good start before the next Italian National Championships

Two days to remember on the Li Zeta slope of the Sitas company, which  in the week from 22 to 28 March will also host the Italian National Championships.

A spring sun, the atmosphere of great occasions and two races with very high competitive contents turned the week-end of the European Cup in Livigno into a success. In two days of competition, some of the best young talents of the entire world scene were brought to the Tagliede - Li Zeta slope of Sitas. Two women's giant slaloms to be followed with extreme attention and that gave the opportunity to some future champions to show their potential also on the snows of the little Tibet.

In Saturday's race the final victory went to German Jessica Hilzinger, born in 1997 and already protagonist of some World Cup stages, who in the second heat managed to progress from the third position she was in at the end of the first one. Hilzinger completed her comeback thanks to a great performance, which earned her the second best time in the run, beaten only by the Swiss Vivianne Haerri, seventh at the end. The German prevailed over the very young Norwegian Marte Monsen, born in 2000 and over the Italian Karoline Pichler, born in 1994, who completed the final podium. To be underlined the excellent performance of the Italian skier, who in the second run managed to climb three positions to reach the lowest step of the podium.

A podium that mainly changed in the second race, the one of Sunday, with the only confirmation of Monsen, who won the race, ahead for 9 cents of Hanna Elfman Aronsson, born in 2002 and a real revelation of the two days in Livigno. The Swede Aronsson, among the youngest ever at the starting gate, climbed to the second step of the podium, after having come close the day before, finishing fourth. Third, in Sunday's race, came the Polish Magdalena Luczak, born in 2001.

The weekend on the snow in Livigno also gave some shocks to the giant slalom ranking of the European Cup, throwing Marte Monsen in the lead, followed by Hilma Loevblom, Swedish, and Hilzinger, winner of Saturday's race, third. The binge of the European Cup, however, is just the beginning for Livigno. Thanks to its organizational and logistical excellence, it is getting ready to also host the next Italian National Championships of the technical disciplines, which will take place in the week between the 22nd and 28th of March, right on the Sitas slopes.

A great closing of the winter season, that will concentrate all the media attention on Livigno, bringing all the big names of the technical disciplines to the locality to compete for the title of Italian champion. From Marta Bassino, new parallel giant slalom world champion, to Federica Brignone; from Luca De Aliprandini, a great silver surprise at the recent World Championships, to Alex Vinatzer: you'll be spoilt for choice, for an absolute level parterre, synonymous with entertainment and great technical expectations.

This is further proof of the quality of the slopes and lifts of Livigno, which will also be among the protagonists of the 2026 Olympics.
