LIVIGNO BEST ITALIAN RESORT FOR FREERIDE

The recognition has come during the Freeride Awards at the Ski Pass Modena exhibition. Thanks to the innovative Freeride Project, launched last season, the resort of the Alta Valtellina opened the way to the organization of the first European Freeride Festival and the World Tour Qualifier 4 *.

LIVIGNO is the best Italian places where to freeride. This has been the response of the Freeride Awards, that have been bestowed today at the Ski Pass Modena exhibition.

In recent years, the freeriders who choose LIVIGNO as a destination of their holidays are always more and more, coming from any corner of the world, searching for the perfect track.

Last year, LIVIGNO has launched an innovative Freeride Project, the only one in Italy, which was immediately taken as a reference point by other resorts.

The highlight of the LIVIGNO Freeride Project is the service of the local daily information about the snowpack stability, which integrates the regional avalanche bulletins of Arpa di Bormio and of the Swiss WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF.

It is an innovation that allows skiers to be updated every morning on local conditions through the news issued by the website of the Livigno Tourist Board (www.livigno.eu), and then published also on billboards displayed at the lifts starting, and through a newsletter service sent to all operators.

It has also been activated a weekly meeting of the Alpine Guides for the training of skiers on the use of rescue equipment: Artva, shovel and probe.

And for non-skiers, the Freeride Project has created two managed trails specially conceived for snowshoeing and ski mountaineering, in order to avoid avalanche risks and that are accessible to all.

For the season 2014/2015 the Freeride Project will be enriched with the creation of a map for the backcountry/freeride activities, with the improvement of communication through screens, lighted billboards and signs, with the installation of checkpoints for Artva, with a better heliskiing service for a more integrated risk management, with safety procedures to start the interventions of artificial avalanche release.

In addition, to give more emphasis to the issue of freeriding, at the end of January is scheduled the European Freeride Festival, an international event that provides for organized activities such as hiking, camp on safety, snowshoeing, freeride film festival, a freeride workshop, materials testing and evenings with athletes.

The Freeride World Tour will be held in Livigno from 2nd to 5th February 2015, with a stage of World Tour Qualifier 4 *, which is open for the athletes who want to participate to the WTF.

The World Tour Qualifier consists of events from 1* to 4 * depending on the trail difficulty level. Livigno is part of the international calendar with a 4* event, which will take place in the Valle delle Mine on the north-east wall of Corno di Capra and east of Pizzo Nembrasca (the path will be selected according to snow conditions).

Athletes will be taken to the top of the mountain by helicopter, once there, they will cover one part by foot, and they will be evaluated based on the track they will choose, on the time, on the control and fluidity of skiing, on air evolutions and possible falls.

APT would like to thank the Alpsolut company for what has been done.

Prizes for Livigno don't stop here. The resort snowparks have won many awards. In particular, Mottolino won the title of Best Special Obstacle and Best Marketing, while the snow park Livigno Park Carosello 3000 obtained the award as Best Beginners Snowpark and Best Boardercross.

These are important qualifications that attest LIVIGNO as on of the best places for freeskiing and snowboarding, stongly loved by the younger who will find structures of international level, prepared according to most modern criteria.

And for the Best Freeride Event category, the prize has been won by La Skieda, an international telemark festival, that since twenty years give thrills to freeheel skiing lovers, beckon in LIVIGNO telemarkers from every country in the world. In this context is also included the the award in the category Best Safty Act bestowed to the Progetto Icaro, which crushed the competition.
