A packed calendar of tailor-made activities, events and accommodation solutions confirm the contagious dynamism and liveliness of tourist sector initiatives which have always marked this holiday destination. OOH and international digital campaigns are currently in progress providing information about summer in Little Tibet, as this area is also known, and featuring sport, adrenaline, the good life and lots of opportunities for fun for everyone.
Summer 2018 comes alive in Livigno, with a winning combination - activity holiday and nature - during a season in which to enjoy being outdoors and doing sport. The special layout of the valley, with its flat areas and slopes, woods and lakes gives visitors an amazing opportunity to choose from a wide range of activities. Starting with the more traditional outdoor activities like mountain and road biking, hiking and trekking, visitors can also choose excursions and climbs with alpine guides, horse-riding, paragliding, golf and tennis, or even windsurfing, kayaking and kiting. Throughout the summer, Livigno will attract bikers, runners and triathletes, both professional and amateur, for international competitions such as Livigno Skymarathon and Livigno K17 (16th June), Bike Transalp (16th-17th July), Stralivigno (21st July) and Icon Livigno Xtreme Triathlon (28th August-2nd September).
In summer, as indeed winter, Livigno confirms itself as an all round lifestyle destination which, besides the many occasions for doing sport and staying in shape, also offers visitors countless opportunities to relax and do something more recreational in town:from duty-free shopping in a true open air shopping centre at altitude featuring over 250 shops, to the events and festivals which celebrate the farming origins of the valley and its traditions. These include Notte Bianca (White Night, on 14th July) and Notte Nera (Black Night on 10th August), the feast of patron saint Santa Maria Nascente (8th September) and the Alpenfest (22nd-23rd September) which hails the return of the cattle from their migratory summer herding in Livigno and Trepalle.
The schedule of events continues with a clear reference to the winter season on 24th August with a double appointment, namely the Trofeo delle Contrade (Trophy of the Districts) & 1kshot. Dressed in traditional clothing the inhabitants of Livigno compete in a ski race on occasion of the Trofeo delle Contrade, one of the most strongly felt events in the village. On the same date there will also be the unmissable 1KShot competition, during which top athletes from the biathlon and cross-country skiing World Cup compete for the off-season podium. This unmissable event anticipates the autumn nordic skiing season, that starts in October and has been made possible owing to the snowfarming technique. The snow that will be used to prepare the track was stored during winter on the central plain of the village and covered first in sawdust and then a geothermal sheet, that isolates it from the temperature of the air and reflects the sun’s rays.
The gastronomy and typical products of the mountains are a privileged key to discovering the area. Moreover, the Sentiero Gourmet (Gourmet Trail 12th July), with its 5km of delicious stops enables visitors to savour the exquisite local cuisine. The event is organised by the Associazione Cuochi e Pasticcieri di Livigno (Chefs and Confectioners Association of Livigno) and provides visitors with a unique opportunity to enjoy local cuisine either in its original, traditional state or reworked by local chefs with a more innovative twist.
For professional athletes, sports enthusiasts or simply lovers of a healthy outdoor lifestyle, the extensive summer programme offers tailor-made packages for staying in the area. Said packages can be purchased from livigno.eu and are combined with stays in hotels or flats offering special services for different kinds of guests. These range from our bike hotel&apartments to Active and Family hotel&apartments and include admission to Aquagranda Active You!, one of the biggest sports and leisure centres in Europe.
Lastly, there are a range of special offers for families with a wide range of attractions, theme parks and services for our littlest visitors, including the Kinder Club Lupigno. Livigno certainly looks after its families well, and Family Week Summer from 7th to 14th July is dedicated to mums and dads travelling with children. Anyone who books a stay during that particular week can have one child stay at a hotel free of charge and benefit from a 50% discount for the second, or alternatively, a 15% discount on a flat, as well as free access to the Kinder Club Lupigno and discounted rates in Aquagranda.
Many sportspeople choose Livigno for their altitude training in summer, too. Indeed, from 1st to 21st July, all eyes will be on this area due to the expected arrival of the Italian National swimming team with Federica Pellegrini and other tricolour champions. As of early June the pools and circuits of Livigno will be the base and setting for many national and international teams wishing to train at altitude. Besides the national swimming team of the Czech Republic and Italian rowing team, Little Tibet, as this area is also known, will get ready to welcome triathlon champions from Japan and Great Britain, too, as well as Giulio Molinari, one of the Team Livigno athletes.
The promotional project for the 2018 summer season also includes a substantial communications campaign organised by Agenzia MediaExchange. The campaign will run until the end of June with both billboards and dynamic digital displays as well as below-the-line advertising in a range of resorts in Lombardy, including branding on the sides of taxis and posters on display outside the main newsagents. The campaign was launched with a huge billboard in Piazza del Duomo in Milan in March and will be completed with specific online campaigns throughout Italy, targeting a wider spectrum of people who love an active lifestyle and holidays spent in close contact with nature.
Besides advertising in Italy, there is also an international campaign, aimed at the main incoming markets i.e. Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Russia, Belgium, Denmark and the Netherlands. Said campaign focusses on four basic tourist ideas for this destination: Livigno active, biking, duty free shopping and holidays for the whole family.
Lastly, the jewels of the summer promotion are the events that bring Piccolo Tibet, as this area is also known, into the spotlight of major national and international sporting events, like its sponsorship of the Mundial match between Italy and the Rest of the World, on 21st March in Rome.
Today, Monday, 28th May, Livigno is on TV as one of the sponsors of the football match between Italy and Saudi Arabia: appointment at 8.45p.m. on RAI 1.
