Livigno Candidates to Winter Olympic Games 2016

Many uncertainties around the double candidacy of the two cities Milano and Torino: here is a solution that mix up the cards and offers a solution that could convince the International Olympic Committee.

Livigno proposes its candidature for the Winter Olympics 2026, the prudence and uncertainties that are around the double candidacy of Torino and Milano, forwarded by Coni to the IOC on the 29th of March, prompted the “Little Tibet” to launch a shock proposal, which reopens the play in a definitely delicate phase and where everything can still be decided.

"We believe that Livigno is the perfect background to host a prestigious sports event like the Winter Olympic Games - explains Luca Moretti, President of Tourism Board Livigno. A small capital of snow sports, chosen and loved every year by thousands of enthusiasts, sports clubs and national federations for their training at high altitude, but also a tested receptive hub that could offer a complete package as a corollary of the event. We have sent a concrete project directly to the IOC, asking to consider the candidacy of Livigno to host the 2026 Winter Olympics. "

A proposal that, almost at the end of the IOC's expected pronouncement on 3 April, may seem provocative but is instead supported by many concrete elements. Located at the extreme north of the Valtellina, Livigno is a snow paradise where you can ski better and longer, from the end of November to the beginning of May, and with its wide skiable area it hosts thousands of tourists and athletes from all over the world every year. In addition to a well working hotels and apartments net, it presents a commercial and leisure offer that meets all expectations, as well as a fascinating mountain setting in the heart of the Alps, which lends itself decisively to the event's mission.

Not just that. Livigno already has the necessary sporting infrastructure to perform several Olympic competitions: a variety of winter disciplines that take place on structures already partially "set up" for the races of the great spectacle of the Winter Games. A feasibility study conducted with the help of a pool of consultants, allowed to identify some opportunities already ready for use: the central plateau for cross-country races, Giorgio Rocca slope for alpine skiing competitions, the “Crap della Parè” mountain for ski jumping, the Forcola area for biathlon and Val Federia for sledging.

Great secrecy on the project until April 3rd, with which Livigno hopes to be able to participate in the dialogue with the International Olympic Committee.
