Stralivigno 2015: the winners are...

THE KENYANS SIMON MUTHONI AND VERONICAH MAINA WIN THE 16TH EDITION OF STRALIVIGNO
For the tenth consecutive year the half marathon of Livigno has been dominated by Kenyans.
Excellent performance by the Italian Lorena Banchetti that conquers the third position on the women's category podium.

Has been held today, in sunny conditions and light winds, the 16th edition of Stralivigno, the running competition entirely at high altitude organized by APT Livigno in collaboration with the Amateur Sports Association "Marathon Club High Altitude". The athletes that took part to theinternational FIDAL race, to the 21 km non-competitive, and to the relay race, have been 1.130 and this created an absolute record for the Stralivigno race.

Even this year the competitive half marathon was dominated by the strong Kenyan runners, from the team Run2together: The winner Simon Kiruthi Muthoni, on his debut to Stralivigno, has finished the race in 1 hour 13' and 44". At second place Ronaldo Ngigi Kariuki (1 hour 14' 02"), while Geoffrey Chege Githuku, winner of last year, takes the third place (1 hour 17' 17"). The first Italian athlete to cross the finish line was Graziano Zugnoni (sixth place - 1 hour 23' 23").
The winner in the female category is the Kenyan Veronicah Njeri Maina, who stopped the stopwatch at 1 hour 22' 20". The compatriot Janet Jepkosgei Imugungtook the second place (1 hour 28' 04"). Excellent performance of the Italian athlete Lorenza Banchetti, who reached the finish line at Aquagranda in 1 hour 38' 00",thus winning the bronze medal. Also of note the excellent result of the first athlete livignasca Giovanna Confortola, who finished the race with the seventh place (1 hour 47' 29"). The husband Gianluigi Martinelli confirms once again as the first among the inhabitants of Livigno in the men's standings, winning the 19th place (1 hour 31' 38").
Alongside the top runners were put into play lots of amateurs, who were able to live the thrilling experience of running at high altitude by participating at the 21 kmnon-competitive and at the relay race in pairs. The track, which snakes along the enchanting valley of Livigno,has started and ended at Aquagranda LivignoSports Fitness Centre, at an altitude of 1,816 meters.

The weekend dedicated to mountain running doesn't stop there. Tomorrow, Sunday 26th July, is scheduled the Ministralivigno, the race designed for young runnersup to 17 years of age, which will start from Plaza Placheda at 09.30.
