Inauguration of the new athletics track in july
Livigno is gradually becoming a real training temple for the top athletes on the planet. Every year, more and more come here to train and it will soon be a hunting ground for runners from all over the world, too. Thanks to the snowfarming technique, snow arrives early in Livigno. Indeed, on 19th October there will be the first cross-country skiing ring for example and even in August, with the Palio delle Contrade-1K Shot. Cross-country skiing and biathlon champions have everything they need here for their athletic preparation.
Altitude training is also ideal for swimmers and the fact that Livigno is located at 1816m a.s.l. means Federica Pellegrini, Gregorio Paltrinieri and other members choose Aquagranda Active You for training. This is one of the largest swimming pools in Europe and athletes benefit from all the advantages being here brings, not to mention the active summer in Little Tibet for entire teams of cyclists.
That's not all, either. In fact, the new feature for 2019 is a brand new athletics track, which was lacking in the area and will mean the Aquagranda - Active You complex will have a Run&Play area, too. This will complete its extensive high-altitude training package. Located outdoors, it is surrounded by a rampart/wall covered in vegetation to protect runners from the wind and immersed in the breathtaking panorama of the Italian Alps. The new six-lane track will allow them to take advantage of the favourable climate here, particularly from May to November. That's not all, to complete the work in 2020 there will be a Finnish track for runners usually found in parks. This special track is formed of a base of spongy material making training more comfortable, with less pressure on a runner’s joints during the course of a walk or run. In Livigno, the track ascends, descends and and curves so is not simply a flat track. It is also covered in a thick layer of sawdust, designed and studied specifically for runners. The cherry on the cake in summer 2020 will be a grass soccer field to complete the area. This summer all the necessary equipment will be available for practicing athletics, the hurdles, javelin throwing, shot put and the 3000 steeplechase.
Cutting the ribbon for the brand new athletics track will take place near an first official appointment: Stralivigno on 20th July, a trail running competition covering a 21km route that can also be enjoyed as a relay (10.5 km each athlete). The event celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and sets off from and arrives at the new track. There is also an equally innovative stretch through the centre of the village to involve spectators and give runners a well-deserved route through the crowds at the same time.
Lastly, Livigno partnered the Golden Gala of athletics held at the Olympic Stadium in Rome in front of 42,000 spectators and went live for two hours on Rai Sport. The official countdown to the opening of the track can now begin...
