Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022: Livigno doubles up and confirms itself as the favourite destination for sports big shots.

Both in the Summer and Winter, Livigno reaffirms its sports inclination: the Norwegian biathlon national team and the Finnish cross-country national team are now here, on the mountains.

So close to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Livigno is filled with many athletes, who have chosen the Valtellina mountains to better take care of the final steps of their athletic training.

Not one, but two Olympics are currently in sight of the many champions that got to Little Tibet over the past weeks in order to take advantage of its excellent sports and accommo-dation facilities.

The postponement of the Japanese Olympics caused by Covid generated an unusual over-lapping of the Summer and Winter Games, which, with the Beijing 2022 edition, will start just a few months after the end of those scheduled in the Land of the Rising Sun.
In particular, Beijing Games are being watched by sector operators, because they will take place at altitude. A unique conditions, which makes Livigno’s position even more strategic and functional for the dry preparation phase. Between skiroll circuits, the running track, road bike trails and mountain hiking, the Valtellina location offers a complete and varie-gated range of training options, and becomes a hub chosen by the best national and inter-national athletes and teams.

The Norwegian biathlon national team - who will be in Valtellina until 25 June - can count on major female and men athletes in the World Cup landscape. Among the other guests in Livigno, you might get the chance to meet Tiril Eckhoff, 1st place in the general ranking of the season that just ended, Sturla Holm Lægreid, 2nd place in the men’s category, and leg-ends such as Tarjei Bø and Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen.
The Finnish cross-country team also includes many big shots, guided by Iivo Niskanen, an absolute champion, with an impressive prize list. 

Apart from being World Champion of the 15 km in Lahti, in 2015 the Finnish athlete was al-so an Olympic multi-champion, thanks to the victory in the team sprint in Soči 2014 and in the solo 50 km in Pyeongchang 2018.A true Five Ring start, who came to Livigno aiming for a new laurel at the Beijing 2022 games.

Livigno confirms itself as the best choice for altitude training, thus renewing its all-round sports vocation, which attracts professional and amateur athletes from all over the Planet, all year long.Not one, but two Olympic games are being currently being prepared in the Valtellina mountains, raising the expectations for the 2026 edition, which will go down in history.

The Swiss Christian Mathys and the Romanian Denisa Dragomir won the Livigno Skymarathon 2021, the South Tyrolean Hannes Perkmann and the Italian Ivana Iozzia won instead the Livigno Sky Trail. After a year of forced stop, due to a pandemic, the Skyrunning World Series circuit has returned for a stage on the mountains on the border between Italy and Switzerland in a location that in recent years has become a real mecca of outdoor sports related to the world of the mountain, so much that it was chosen as the venue for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
