Livigno: La Milanesiana comes to an end

The travelling festival conceived by Elisabetta Sgarbi made a stop in Little Tibet: three days of events dedicated to cinema, economics, philosophy, literature, music, science and much more.

From 25 to 27 July, Livigno was the stage for the 23rd edition of La Milanesiana, the largest travelling festival, devised and directed by Elisabetta Sgarbi, one of the most interesting and most artistically and culturally important events on a national and international level.

The Livigno stage was preceded by three days of meetings and cultural events in Bormio. From 21 to 24 July, the town was enlivened with dialogues between artists and professionals from all over the world, such as Francesco Tricarico, Vittorio Sgarbi, Marco Lodola, Michael Cunningham, Nuccio Ordine, Enrico Rotelli, Federica Pellegrini, Stefano Barigelli, Paolo Fresu, Gene Gnocchi and Marco Posani.

The first Livigno evening was opened, as usual, by Elisabetta Sgarbi and Livigno's Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Sharon Zini, who said: 'Culture: a necessary tool for restarting, but also a fundamental pillar to be flanked by tourism in a new development model. Cultural events of the calibre of La Milanesiana perfectly reflect the lively soul of the locality and enrich our tourist offer. I thank Dr. Sgarbi for choosing us as the stage - the highest, at 1,816 metres above sea level - of this great travelling festival!"

"Alice canta Battiato" was the first event to kick off the kermesse involving Little Tibet.Elisabetta Sgarbi opened the evening of 25 July, with the Cinelux hall full, including Paola Romerio Bonazzi, Bormio's Councillor for Culture, testifying to the union of the two towns in Valtellina.
The festival's creator remembered Franco Battiato, describing him as 'a friend of La Milanesiana': it was he, in fact, who designed the rose that has been the festival's iconic symbol for 23 years.Italian singer-songwriter, pianist and composer Alice personally chose Livigno to perform in memory of the artist and friend, with whom she had collaborated since the early 1980s. Accompanying her on piano was Carlo Guaitoli, who has always followed Battiato's work in both his concert and record productions. The performance gave space to Battiato's entire repertoire: from songs of the early years, to those written for Alice herself, such as 'Il vento caldo dell'estate'. Concerning this song, Alice said: 'I had asked him to write a song for me that would paint the shadows that the sun leaves on the ground... He told me: 'Alice, you know that to do a song like that you have to be in a certain emotional state, I'll let you know if I can do something'. Three days later he called me on the phone and played me, as was his custom, the song he had written for me: it was North Cape."The performance then continued with songs such as 'Per Elisa' - winner of the Sanremo Festival in 1981 -, 'La Cura', 'La Canzone dell'Amore' and finally 'I treni di Tozeur', with which they had appeared at Eurovision in 1984.The evening, appreciated by the whole audience present in the hall, ended with the 'dance of the rose' involving Sharon Zini (Tourism Councillor of Livigno Municipality), Livigno Mayor Remo Galli, Alice and pianist Carlo Guaitoli.

On 26 July, however, Plaza Placheda welcomed many guests young and old: they were all looking forward to the meeting between the sisters Cristina D'Avena, the unmistakable voice of many cartoon theme songs, and Clarissa D'Avena, press officer and manager in the entertainment world. Following Elisabetta Sgarbi's opening greetings, writer Enrico del Buono moderated the talk by the two sisters, who retraced their childhoods, recounting anecdotes but also their current relationship, which has developed over time to the point of symbiosis. Both with a passion for singing, they took part in the Antoniano choir, but only Cristina later made this passion her job. Following the dialogue, Cristina D'Avena performed together with the Gem Boy: the performance, with a set list of 22 songs, created a festive atmosphere in the square, where adults and children danced until the last song. The evening of 27 July was devoted to current political and business affairs. Immediately after the customary opening greetings by Elisabetta Sgarbi, Francesca Masiero, president of pba S.p.A., spoke about her entrepreneurial experience related to the world of women: the board of her company is made up of 90% women, chosen during a genderless search for highly qualified people who could bring benefits to her company. Afterwards, US journalist and author Alan Friedman read a text he had written in the previous days, focusing on Western society, which is increasingly exposed to populist propaganda. It was then time for a debate between the two figures, moderated by journalist Paolo Conti, in which the topics of politics, current affairs and business were taken up.         Once the dialogue was over, Davide Toffolo, frontman of the band Tre Allegri Ragazzi Morti, sang some songs from his repertoire, followed by a performance of Extraliscio. The two singers then duetted interpreting 'Bianca Luce Nera', a song written by the two bands and presented at Sanremo 2021.

The last Valtellina evening of La Milanesiana ended with final greetings and the customary 'dance of the rose', which saw all the protagonists of the last event on stage."I hope it is a goodbye with Livigno! The festival continues by moving to Venice, where we will be from tomorrow with an exhibition of Ignazio Stern, an Austrian painter who worked a lot in Italy, and the private collection of his greatest collector: Vittorio Sgarbi. This will be followed by a guitar concert by Renato Caruso, winner of the Silver Lion in Venice, entitled 'From Pythagoras to Touring, a journey between philosophy science and music'. We look forward to seeing you!' Elisabetta Sgarbi concluded.
All La Milanesiana events are also available online, on the Corriere della Sera website and on the official La Milanesiana Facebook page.
