The spectacular"1K Shot in Livigno has warmed up the engines for the 2019 edition of the Palio delle Contrade, an ancient challenge that sees the people from the Livigno area competing on the 1 km track created with snowfarming snow.
Eight districts represented, Centro, Comunin Pemont, Forcola, Ostaria, Plan da Sora, Saroch, Teola and Trepalle, in a challenge that yesterday amused the huge audience at the skiing track from 8.30 pm until almost midnight.
The flags representing the eight districts were brought by the young guys of Livigno and Trepalle born in 2000, while the torch by the Livigno ski club guys, who marched all along the track up to the finish area, in the town center, greeted by the mayor Damiano Bormolini who officially gave the go-ahead to the Palio delle Contrade 2019 with the lighting of the brazier at 20.30.
The Palio also wants to be a catwalk for the many costumes preserved with great devotion from year to year and for valuable vintage skis, for some with a pinch of jokes but always with the great honor of representing the own district. So then many champions of yesterday and today took part to the race.
The race itself was won by Simone Urbani, a former athlete of the Italian National Team, and Livigno Team athlete with a time of
1’12”242, who preceded other prominent names like Thomas and Nicholas Bormolini and Paolo Rodigari. On the other hand, the former Sci Club Livigno athlete and then the Consuelo Confortola of the Central Alps Committee with a nice
1’40”042 took the luxury to get behind the great Livigno champion Marianna Longa.
Among the many participants Don Stefano Ferrari and Mons. Giuseppe Longhini did not go unnoticed: their competition times are in full respect of the Decoubertian spirit, like most of the Districts members. A big thank you goes to the -not so young- competitors who are the precious pearls of our Palio - the organizers say.
Great work of the volunteers and the organizing committee, rewarded by the success of the event. Now we look forward to October, when the actual classification of the districts of Livigno will be revealed at the official awards ceremony.
