HISTORY HAS BEEN WRITTEN: LIVIGNO IS AT THE TOP OF THE GENERAL WORLD CUP OF BIATHLON WITH WIERER AND VITTOZZI

An extraordinary moment for Wierer and Vittozzi, bearers of the Livigno colours. Dorothea has won the World Cup and Lisa ranked second overall. The two athletes will also be present at Little Tibet’s Olympic Week.

Dorethea Wierer has won the World Cup, entering Italian biathlon history and taking the colours of Livigno with her to the very top of the world. Second overall, Lisa Vittozzi completed the duet wearing the national colours. From Mohammad Alì and Joe Frazier to Earvin Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, and John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg, there has been no shortage of rivals in the world of sport. That of Biathlon World Cup athletes Lisa Vittozzi and Dorothea Wierer, leading figures in an amazing season, is very special indeed however. Vittozzi is as reserved as Borg, Bird and Frazier, while Wierer is as exuberant an extrovert as Alì, Magic and McEnroe. Both are national team athletes and ranked almost identically in the World Cup before this last challenge, the former being slightly ahead. Outside the world of biathlon, they are bound by friendship and the fact they represent the colours of Livigno, which are always on show and clearly visible at social and sporting events.

Dorothea Wierer's victory in the general ranking and Vittozzi's second place show both that #LivignoBringsLuck and that this partnership works beautifully. Dorothea has been waving the Livigno flag for a good few years now, whilst Lisa Vittozzi has only done so this season. It is no coincidence that it has been a turning point for the biathlete from the region of Friuli, thanks to her accurate shooting skills. Following the five medals won by national athletes in the World Championships in Oestersund, the World Cup came to an epic end on the famous hill of Holmenkollen, with the two biathlon athletes separated by just three points and tailgated to win the precious crystal ball trophy, by the treacherous Mars Olsbu Roeiseland and Anastasiya Kuzmina. The day before the competition, both athletes were firmly focused on the goal in hand and Dorothea managed to keep a cool head by winning the general biathlon World Cup. As they say, 'there is always a first time' and nobody in the national ranking - neither man nor woman - had ever managed such a feat. Dorothea, teeth clenched, was exhausted when she reached the finish line in 12th position and kindly hugged her partner Vittozzi who arrived 11th and managed to defend her second place in the overall ranking. This starting point isn’t bad at all for Lisa.

The two stars of the Italian national team with Livigno in their hearts, will also be present at Olympic Week in Livigno. On 1st April, it will be possible to test a discipline which is becoming increasingly more popular in both Italy and the rest of Europe, especially in countries such as Germany, Russia, Austria and Scandinavia where it has become an out and out 'religion'. Lisa Vittozzi is the great novelty of Team Livigno and, given her young age, has a bright future ahead of her. "Livigno has welcomed me like a big family", said the champion after winning the 1K Shot in 2018.
