Livigno and its freeride and avalanche bulletin project participate in the EAWS conference, which is taking place at this moment in Rome.
The experience gained by Livigno with the Freeride project relating to safety and off-piste skiing is shared at this moment in Rome during the 18th Conference of the European Avalanche Warning Services. It is a biennial conference with the goal of comparing the European avalanches services on themes such as operational methods and forecasting products.
35 national, regional and local forecasting services coming from Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Scotland, Spain, the Catalan Autonomous Region, France, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Romania attend the conference and 3 observer countries Canada, US and New Zealand. Livigno is represented by Fabiano Monti who started the Freeride Project in the winter season 2012/2013 together with Alpsolut company and in cooperation with APT Livigno.
“We are submitting the local avalanche forecasting to a large number of international interlocutors - says Fabiano Monti – and on the one hand it brings great benefits for the end-users and on the other hand it is matter of debate among specialists. Livigno is one of the most sensitive ski resort about this subject and remains at the forefront”.
Among the topics on the agenda: definition of a new Avalanche Danger Scale, standardization and definition of avalanche danger situation, No Snow and No info icons, local avalanche forecasting versus synoptic forecast, approval of the new EAWS regulation, avalanche forecasting programs, data collection and storage.
