LIVIGNO CROWNS THE ITALIAN ALPINE SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS: FIRST PLACES FOR ZINGERLE, BRIGNONE, GROSS AND BASSINO

The winter season of technical disciplines closes in great style with the Italian Championships that gave surprises and a lot of show.

Three days of great show has just ended in Livigno. The slopes of the “Piccolo Tibet”, in fact, hosted the Italian Alpine Ski Championships, the last appointment of a season full of satisfactions for the Italian athletes. The races, held in full compliance with the regulations in force, were a triumph for sports and media, with excellent technical performances and a massive Rai television coverage of all the races.

The race program started by the men's giant slalom on Monday 22nd, which saw at the starting gate the big names of the Italian panorama: Riccardo Tonetti, Giovanni Borsotti and the vice World Champion Luca De Aliprandini.

The first run, about 6"faster than the second track, saw Hannes Zingerle win by 20 hundredths of a second over the veteran Luca De Aliprandini. Behind them, Daniele Sorio, very close behind, for a very short provisional ranking that seemed to herald a close fight for the medals. The second run, confirmed the podium of the first one, crystallizing the first three positions and giving Zingerle the title of Italian Champion.

The day of Tuesday 23rd was entirely dedicated to the slalom, alternating the male and female heats on the Tagliede - Li Zeta slope of the Sitas company. In the women's category, the champion Federica Brignone won the title, thanks to the second part of the race, which saw her recover from the second provisional position of the first run. Federica, who wins her eighth Italian title, said at the end of the slope: "In Livigno we really enjoy the end of the season, the sun is shining since the first morning and the slope is always nice. We are very comfortable here and at this moment of my career it is exactly what I needed." Second place went to 23-year-old Vera Tschurtschenthaler who at the end of the race paid a gap of 23 hundredths to the 2020 World Cup winner. The podium was completed by Vivien Insam, who slipped to third place after her best time in the first run.

Also in the men's slalom, the big names of the Italian ski team proved to be ready to fight among the narrow poles since the first run. The final ranking reads Stefano Gross, first, Riccardo Tonetti, second and third place for Tommaso Sala and Alex Vinatzer. Crowded podium, for a very hard-fought race on Livigno's snows, giving Gross the second title in his career after the one he won in 2014.

Closing the busy program was the eagerly awaited women's giant slalom which saw the two spearheads of our national team, Federica Brignone and Marta Bassino, compete for the title. Thanks to a stratospheric second run, it was the fresh winner of the World Cup in this specialty who won, preceding Brignone and Karoline Pichler, who completed the podium. This is the crowning achievement of a crazy season for Bassino, who, at the Rai microphones, recalled her first Absolute won, seven years ago, right on the snow of Livigno, thus closing the perfect circle of a dreamy 2021.

A side note, in conclusion, also the participation of two athletes from Livigno: Simon Talacci and Elena Lazzeri, who were born and grew up on these snows.

A kermesse with a high technical value, in which the great Italian stars shone, and which highlighted Livigno's organizational and logistic efficiency: a guarantee of absolute excellence.
