The winter season starts Saturday with the opening of a part of the cross country track covered by artificial snow. The white autumn of Little Tibet leads straight to La Sgambeda, the international cross-country skiing marathon of the Visma Ski Classics circuit.
In Livigno the winter season officially begins today with the opening of 2 km of the track "Marianna Longa". Thanks to the drop in temperature of these days (ranging between -5 ° and 7 °) the snow cannons, which for a couple of years provide artificial snow also on the track, covered 8 km of the total length (30 km). The artificial snow has been groomed by the snowcats together with natural snow that fell in the last weeks. The early opening of the track has become an habit which gives to the Little Tibet the chance to anticipate the opening of the winter season hosting many cross-country skiers. Furthermore, several National Teams train in Livigno before the start of the World Cup races.
“The opening of the first 2 Km – said Luca Moretti, president of Apt Livigno – is just a taste of what hopefully is going to be a white autumn. Our first winter event, planned for the St. Ambrose weekend, will be La Sgambeda, an international competition that attracts cross-country skiers from all over the world especially from Northern Europe”.
Since last year La Sgambeda became part of the prestigious international circuit Visma Ski Classics which includes the 9 classic races around the world including the Vasaloppet and Marcialonga. The winter season will be inaugurated right in Livigno with a Prologue in teams on 5 December 2015.
On 6 December is the turn of La Sgambeda Classic – 35 Km in classic technique. It starts from the town center and reaches gradually through the woods the Forcola area to let enjoy the charming views between the huts. And for the little ones, the appointment is with La Minisgambeda (5 December 2015). A 1 to 5 km tracks suitable both for young athletes and children who want to learn Nordic skiing. La Sgambeda will usher in the traditional Feast of the Immaculate Conception and right in this period is also available the special promotion "Skipass Free" which takes place from 28 November to 19 December 2015 and also from 9 April to 1 May 2016. This promotion meets perfectly the needs of those who wants to ski and to enjoy a winter holiday at small prices. In fact, during this period by staying in a participating hotel for 4 nights or in a participating apartment for 7 nights, you will get your skipass for free.
