DISCOVER LIVIGNO BOTH PAST AND PRESENT BY LETTING MUS! TAKE YOU ON A JOURNEY THROUGH TRADITION

Mus!, the museum of Livigno and Trepalle, is in continuous evolution, innovating and renewing itself so visitors can discover the traditions and history of Little Tibet and alpine culture. The summer is packed with workshops, guided tours and events visitors simply cannot miss in order to experience a journey into the past as real leading figures.

Little Tibet has always been well-known as a ski resort and the ideal place for outdoor activities, as well for as its breathtaking scenery and vibrant open-air shopping scene. However, it is much more than this. Located at 1816m a.s.l. in the backdrop of the Italian Alps and surrounded by the colours, sounds and scents of nature, Livigno is a cradle of tradition, history and culture, too.

Mus!, the museum of Livigno and Trepalle, is undoubtedly the ideal place for visitors to fully immerse themselves in the history of Little Tibet. Mus! bears witness to the spirit of adaptation and the art of getting by with little for which the people of Livigno have always stood out.

Located in an old house, Mus! helps both tourists and the locals better understand the history of the area and the energy and dynamics which have led to it being as it is today.

Visitors can choose to wander around the various rooms of the museum either alone or with a guide. It is a faithful reconstruction and has a truly evocative atmosphere, leaving them with unforgettable memories.

Mus!, part of Valtellina’s museum, is not simply a museum due to the active presence of its volunteers. Indeed, visitors can enjoy a whole host of different periods of the tradition of Livigno. Volunteers organise themed exhibitions to guide visitors through history throughout the year, updating and reviewing their work constantly in order to offer educational workshops and events. The Mus! calendar is full of unmissable appointments with history throughout the summer of 2019, too.

Wool carding

On Wednesday afternoons there is a 4.20p.m. appointment for visitors in a private home in which they can watch the centuries-old wool carding machines operating. Said machines are still in perfect working order thanks to the commitment and passion of Vito, a museum volunteer, who demonstrates one of the essential steps in the wool processing cycle, namely carding.

Patron Saints and their Churches

Thursday afternoon is dedicated to churches. Indeed, as of 4.30pm, those of Santa Maria Nascente, San Rocco and Sant'Antonio open their doors to visitors, enabling them to enjoy a special experience discovering the stories and hidden details of these churches.

Ski (R) evolution", the skis that made history

On Fridays, on the other hand, the meeting is at 11a.m. at the entrance to Aquagranda Active You  where the "Ski (R) evolution" exhibition, organised by Mus! has been set up, displaying 140 pairs of skis that made history. The guided tour is an opportunity to explore the history of skiing in Livigno and the revolution in technology, sport and local tourism over the last century.

Traditional evenings

Mus! switches on its lights every Friday evening over the summer from 9-11.00p.m. so visitors can capture the evocative atmosphere of cool mountain evenings, enlivened by musicians and townspeople in traditional garments busy working as people did in the past.

Mus! is open from 25th June to 30th September 2019, Tuesday to Saturday from 10.00a.m. to 12.30p.m. and from 3.00 to 7.00 p.m.. Sundays from 10.00a.m. to 12.30p.m. and 3.00 to 5.30p.m.. It also opens on Friday evenings from 9.00pm to 11.00pm (and there are special guided tours at 9.00pm and 10.00pm). Guided tours must be booked and visitors with a Livigno Card can access the museum and exhibitions at special rates.
