LIVIGNO, IDEAL LOCATION FOR EUROPEAN MEDALISTS

Precious metals for the athletes who trained at altitude in Livigno.

Some of the medalists taking part in the Glasgow 2018 European Championships trained at altitude in Livigno in June and July.

The European Championships are currently taking place in Glasgow and include rowing, swimming and cycling, sports for which many of the athletes who trained in Livigno have won medals.

We’re only halfway through the Championships, but Livigno has already enjoyed enormous satisfaction.

- Gold medal in the lightweight men's canoeing quadruple with Catello Amarante II, Paolo Di Girolamo, Andrea Micheletti and Matteo Mulas who dominated the race, leaving the Czech Republic and the Netherlands 8 seconds behind.

- Bronze medal for Alessandra Patelli and Sara Bertolasi in the Women’s Pairs canoeing.

- Gold medal for Maria Giulia Confalonieri in the European Track Cycling Championships Women’s Points Race.

- Silver medal for Italian champion Elia Viviani in the Omnium European Track Cycling Championships in Glasgow.

- Bronze medal for Letizia Paternoster in the Women’s Omnium European Track Cycling Championships.

- Silver medal for Luca Braidot in the MTB Cross Country championships.

- Double gold medal for Simona Quadarella in the women’s 800m and 1500m freestyle races with an extraordinary performance.

- Gold medal for Alessandro Miressi in the 100m freestyle race and bronze medal in the mixed 4x100 relay race.

- Bronze medal for Carlotta Zofkova in the 100m backstroke race.

- Bronze medal for Luca Pizzini in the 200m breaststroke race.

Not to mention that the Divine Fede has yet to compete in the 100m freestyle race and Sara Dossena in the marathon during the European Championships in Berlin.

Livigno confirms itself increasingly more as an ideal location for training for important sporting events and, as of next season, athletes will also be able to come to Little Tibet to train on the brand new athletics track.

Aquagranda Active You, one of the largest leisure centres in Europe, has become a fixed destination for the national swimming teams who come here to finish off their training. More generally, Livigno offers a range of services which allow athletes to train, relax and live in the best way possible, taking full advantage of the altitude.

Matteo Giunta and the athletes of the Italian national team trained for three weeks in July to prepare for the European Championships in Glasgow and crossed paths with the Italian Canoeing  team and the Cycling team, on a collegiate retreat.

At 1816m, Livigno is the highest plateau in Europe and the second highest in the world after that of Mexico City.

A real open-air gym with bike paths, MTB trails, downhill routes, the lake, alpine passes nearby, good food with gastronomic delicacies, Livigno has so much to offer, meaning that athletes from a wide range of sporting disciplines, amongst which the triathlon, ask to come and train here.

Sport in Livigno is a lever for tourism marketing and the resort is becoming increasingly more a centre of preparation for Olympic and non-Olympic sports as well as an active holiday location for tourists.

On the 24th August there will be a great show with the champions of cross-country skiing and the  biathlon at 1Kshot within the sphere of the Palio delle Contrade (districts race), a 1 kilometre track with real snow running down the traditional shopping road.

“Livigno confirms itself as a preparation centre of international calibre,” declared Luca Moretti, CEO of Livigno Tourist Board, “and we’re delighted about the success of the Italian athletes whom we have seen train here with us, not to mention the many foreign athletes who’ve also trained here. There’s also much talk about Livigno at present within the Olympic sphere, for the canditature of the 2026 Winter Games. These European successes are proof of the fact it’s possible to do sport here at a very high level.”
