SUMMER 2019 IN LIVIGNO: A RACE A MONTH WITH SKYMARATHON, STRALIVIGNO AND PALIO DELLE CONTRADE / 1K SHOT

This whirlwind of sporting events in Livigno is suited to all ages and competitive palettes. Enthusiasts will be able to mark the commitments for next season in red on their calendars, with a whole host of tempting races and spin off events.

Summer in Little Tibet, as this area is also known, will be ‘long and hot’ to paraphrase a song by Italian pop group 883 and begin with two exciting races: Livigno Skymarathon and K17 on 15th June, registration for which is already open. The length of the track for the Skymarathon is around 34km with a 2700m difference in altitude, and the race itinerary has participants covering long stretches of wilderness and even crossing the border over into Switzerland, with ridge passes under the surveillance of the Alpine Guides and alpine rescue team. A safe race in a beautiful setting, for which the presence of both 2018 Sky Extra Migu Run Skyrunner World Series champion Hillary Gerardi and winner of the Skyrunning World Series 2018 Sky Extra, Pere Aurell, has already been confirmed. The shorter K17, on the other hand, features a route covering about 17km with a 1000m difference in altitude, ideal even for athletes who have done less training.

From June, we move on to the month dedicated to Julius Caesar with the Stralivigno on 20th July, the 20th event of which will be held this year, that allows enthusiasts to enjoy a number of new features which they will discover step after step…. In this case too, enrolment is already open on www.stralivigno.it, with the classical 21km trail running half marathon covering cycle paths, forest roads and mountain paths. Walking couples can also take part. Ministralivigno, organised for children, will take place the following day and the start and finishing lines will be on the new athletics track which open in the summer of 2019 near the Aquagranda - Active You sports centre.

Summer in Livigno will then heat up further, from hot to 'boiling' with the Palio delle Contrade - 1KShot on 23rd August. An amazing parade of amateurs, cross-country skiers and top biathletes will compete on a snowy track created using snowfarming, a technique the people of Livigno have mastered.

Don’t miss out on the events of the 27th and 28th June either, when the Transalp Tour goes through Livigno, or the National Park Bike Marathon on 31st August, a well as Icon – the extreme triathlon of the province of Sondrio being held from 30th August to 1st September.
