Belgium, Great Britain, Czech Republic, Denmark, Norway and Brazil are just some of the nations represented by the 250 athletes expected at the start, on Friday 2 September, in the icy waters of the lake of Livigno, testifying to the international calibre of an appointment that is synonymous with extreme and a challenge to oneself. 3800 metres of swimming, starting in the darkness of the pre-dawn hours; followed by 195 kilometres by bike, for a fraction that can boast 5000 metres of total elevation gain; to be followed by the final marathon, also enriched by over 3000 metres of elevation gain. A brutal route from a technical point of view, and designed to test the tenacity, endurance and will of the starters, called to a feat they will remember for the rest of their lives.
Also present on the start list is Giulio Molinari, adopted son of Livigno and already twice Icon winner. At his side, an absolute novelty, there will also be the Livigno-born Saverio Zini, former biathlete of the Italian national team, who recently retired from professionalism. For Saverio, ICON will be his first experience in triathlon and his first official competitive outing since the end of his career. An important turning point and an ambitious way of putting himself to the test, the result of a visceral and sincere relationship with the world of sport and with the beauty of hard work. A beauty that is also available to the public, who will be able to enjoy the spectacular nature of the route from different vantage points, to really feel at the heart of the race. In particular, the organisation recommends not to miss: the start at the lake, scheduled for 5.00 a.m. on Friday 2 September; the passage of the athletes through the centre of the village, scheduled for mid-afternoon; and the arrival at Carosello 3000, which can also be easily reached by the cable car open until the end of the race. The place where the winners of ICON 2022 will be crowned.
