LIVIGNO is back with the skyrunning: Christian Mathys & Denisa Dragomir are the protagonists of the sixth edition

The Swiss Christian Mathys and the Romanian Denisa Dragomir won the Livigno Skymarathon 2021, the South Tyrolean Hannes Perkmann and the Italian Ivana Iozzia won instead the Livigno Sky Trail. After a year of forced stop, due to a pandemic, the Skyrunning World Series circuit has returned for a stage on the mountains on the border between Italy and Switzerland in a location that in recent years has become a real mecca of outdoor sports related to the world of the mountain, so much that it was chosen as the venue for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

At the starting line of the two races more than 500 athletes from 10 different nations. While the big names of the World Cup of racing at the edge of the sky, battled on the 34 very technical km of the Livigno Skymarathon (about 2600 md +), another 150 runners experienced a Saturday of great sport, by running the 18km of the Sky Trail (1000 md +) .

Headquarters of the 2021 edition is the innovative Aquagranda center, with start and finish on the blue carpet of the new athletics track.

LIVIGNO SKYMARATHON:
No doubt, no uncertainty. The Swiss Christian Mathys and the Romanian Denisa Dragomir put on a show by imposing severe gaps on their opponents on the selective trail of the second stage of the Skyrunning World Series 2021. Despite the heavy snowfalls, the tracers coordinated by the Alpine Guide Adriano Greco and the home champion Marco De Gasperi, managed to stage an epic 6th edition that largely replicated the one already proposed in 2019.

Ready, go and the Swiss Christian Mathys immediately took the lead, keeping the lead until the finish line. As did the strong Romanian athlete Denisa Dragomir. Behind them it was instead a challenge for the remaining podium positions with continuous reversals in front. At the finish line in Aquagranda, Mathys crossed the ended with a 3h50'25'', lining up the Spaniard Manuel Merillas 3h54'17, and the other Swiss athlete Pascal Buch 4h00'18. Gianluca Ghiano, Ander Inarra, Benedikt Hoffmann, Ricardo Cherta, Luca Del Pero, Wifred Hernandez and Asier Larruzzea complete the top ten of the day.

For the women cathegory, a finish line of 4h38'13, for an unchatchable Denisa Dragomir.  Second came the Norwegian Eli Anne Dvergsdal (4h57'20), while third came the German Rosanna Buchauer (5h02'47). In the top five also the Basque Mayi Mujika and the Austrian Stephanie Kroll. On the other hand, a bad fall and the high temperatures, left the home favorite Elisa Desco out of the fight for the podium, with the 6th place overall.

LIVIGNO SKYTRAIL:
Everyone behind Hannes Perkmann and Ivana Iozzia. On the 18km (1000m D +), which followed the first part of the long race, the South Tyrolean of the Scarpa/Karpos team immediately imposed the law of the strongest, by taking a good margin on the direct rivals. At least in the first part of the ascent, the competition in pink was more fought with a real head-to-head between Ivana Iozzia from Italy and Susanna Saapunki from Finland.

As the kilometers were covered, Perkmann increased his advantage, while the female road racer of Calcestruzzi Corradini team, secured the success. The ranking reveals that Perkmann won in 1h27'19. On the podium with him also the Italian Luca Cagnati 2nd in 1h32'54, and the Portuguese Andre Rodrigues 3rd in 1h34'24. German Stefan Knopf 4th, and Eros Radaelli 5th also did well.

First place in women cathegory for Iozzia with 1h50'28. Second was Susanna Saapunki with 1h52'38, while third was the young Gaia Bertolini with 1h54'00.

Now that the Livigno Skymarathon has ended, the next sports event in Little Tibet will be on July 24th with the Stralivigno, the 21km classic trail running race, that runs along the mid-mountain trails and is a fixed appointment for hundreds of runners.
