LIVIGNO: Klettenhammer and Kowalczyk win Sgambeda 2022

Great success for the 32nd edition of Sgambeda that, in this last pre-Christmas Sunday, gave emotions on the snow of Livigno. The numerous participants, in fact, coming from every corner of Europe representing more than 100 teams, gave life to a unique spectacle, merging in the same frame the beauty of sport and that of a fairy-tale landscape.

Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, Austria, Estonia, Switzerland and Holland are just some of the nations represented by the group of starters, for a granfondo event with a long tradition, capable of attracting professionals and amateurs from everywhere over the years.

The 30 kilometers of this 2022 edition, tackled by the athletes in free technique, enjoyed a day of clear skies and beating sunshine, which illuminated the entire route, embellishing the most iconic passages of a course also designed to enhance the unspoiled nature of Little Tibet, making all the participants satisfied. Participants who gave life to a race with a good technical profile, thanks to the presence of numerous high-level athletes, protagonists of absolutely relevant performances.

Among the men, the winner was Italy's Patrick Klettenhammer, of Robinson Ski Team A.S.D, who finished his effort in one hour, 18 minutes and 56 seconds, ahead of Paolo Fanton, of Team Futura A.S.D White Fox, and Switzerland's Arnaud Du Pasquier, of SAS Bern, who finished third just five seconds behind. 

Among the women, triumph for champion Justyna Kowalczyk, a four-time career World Cup winner and five-time Olympic podium finisher, who, with a capital race, beat Czech Sandra Schuetzova of the Czech Republic and Anna Roswitha Seebacher of Austria. One hour, twenty-six minutes and 3 seconds was the final time of the Polish, the true star of the event, who crumbled the competition.

The day ended with the unfailing pasta party in Plaza Placheda, a moment of interaction and conviviality that best represents the spirit of the Sgambeda and the climate in which it is contested. A spirit that is perfectly in line with the locality itself, always capable of making sport a reason for social cohesion and belonging, as also demonstrated by the warm participation in Saturday's Minisgambeda, dedicated to young cross-country skiers, and by the presence, at the start of today's race, of former Olympic athlete Marianna Longa, a Livignasca doc, and of a dozen pioneers who have participated in every single edition from the event's inception to today. 

Next appointment with narrow skis set for January 21 and 22, when the best athletes on the Planet will arrive on the snows of Livigno for the two scheduled Sprint World Cup races, individual and team.
